"Os be to"

It's been a REALLY long time since I updated this blog. Have been busy with work and (ok, I admit) lazy to blog.

Anyway, a new development of Karyn's prompted me to chronicle it before my memory fails me.

Her vocabulary bank has expanded by leaps and bounds in the past year that I stopped blogging. Recently, we heard her use a weird-sounding term.

She would say, "Ye Ye's house os be to 13th floor, but we take the lift to 14th floor."

Or just the other day when we were eating watermelon, she said, "These two pieces os be to together. But auntie cut."

After some head scratching, we realised that she meant "supposed to". But somehow, she got used to pronouncing it as "os be to" for some reason or another. So I asked her if she meant "supposed to" which she said yes.

So I decided to correct her once and for all, not wanting her to continue using a nonsensical term which nobody understands. Gently, I told her that there is no such word as "os be to" and taught her the proper pronounciation. She actually broke into laughter. Maybe she realised her own silliness. After some coaching, she managed to get the pronounciation correct and repeated the phrase several times as if to lock it in her head.

Kids, they are such a joy.
